What you can do for your business on a rainy day?

Rainy day blog header

It’s inevitable. We live in the UK! It’s going to rain (physically, and, metaphorically!) So, if a rainy day spoils your plans, what can you do to make the most of it?

1) Clear that Inbox

We’re all guilty of it.

Snoozing emails, or leaving them unread at the bottom of the inbox, just because we didn’t have the mental capacity to deal with it at the time.

Sometimes, they’re not even difficult – It’s a discount code, or someone’s newsletter that you’ve not gotten around to reading… but the fact that they’re still there and hanging around is definitely adding to your overwhelm, trust us!

2) Batch Create!

We all know that consistent marketing is one of the best ways to keep business afloat and GROWING. But – when the tasks pile up, blogging or creating content is often the first thing to go!

Why? Because no one is going to be chasing you up if you don’t do it!

If you’re finding yourself with an extra bit of free time, why not get yourself camera-ready and batch create some content? Or, get some chill tunes on and put your keyboard to work whilst smashing out some blogs?

3) Tidy up your Bookkeeping

You surely knew this one was coming, didn’t you?

We don’t need to go through alllll the reasons why regular bookkeeping is essential, but even knowing that doesn’t always mean we’re on top of it as small business owners!

We know it’s not the most riveting way to use your time (if you don’t wanna do it, why not let us?)

BUT think of what you’re going to get out of it!

  • An idea of what you’ll owe in tax so you can set it aside.

  • Insights into whether you’re operating the most tax efficiently as possible.
  • Finding out what your most profitable services or products are, and which ones maybe need cutting…

  • Maybe you’ll even find an unpaid invoice and be able to chase that (and that’s like finding a tenner in the couch!)

4) ‘Check in’ with yourself

The temptation to keep pushing forward, keep coming up with new things, and keep WORKING as a self-employed business owner is huge.

And sometimes, it’s the right thing to do!

But, sometimes, curling up with a hot mug of something and a journal and just laying your thoughts bare can give your business as much of a boost as a 12 hour work day!

You and your business are inextricably intertwined – so for your business to be okay, YOU need to be okay!

5) Watch Masterclasses

We all do it, right? SIgn up for this masterclass, and that … and then don’t really get round to actually watching them?

If you find yourself with a free time slot, why not get around to watching a few of them, and then giving yourself time to make an action plan from what you’ve learned?

6) Reach out to cold prospects

We’re not going to dive into the stats here, but it’s well-documented that those who have already shown an interest in your business are a lot more likely to then come back and buy than someone who has found you for the first time. Prospects ‘go cold’ for many reasons.

Some we find are …

  • Personal or family life goes a bit crazy
  • Their own business is going through a busy time
  • Emails went to junk!
  • It wasn’t the right time, and they didn’t know how to say it!

Unless you’ve been asked not to continue to contact them, people who have already reached out to you will pretty much be expecting that you’ll get back in touch sometime!

So, whether it’s dropping an email to see how they’re doing, or, if you’re really brave, picking up the phone(!), this bit of effort may well pay off – if it’s now the right time for your prospect to buy.

7) Go play!

– As we’re always banging on about – it’s all too easy for your business to become all-consuming, and for you to forget that it is OKAY for you to have a day off!

If you find yourself with a free period of time, you can 100% give yourself permission to do something fun, for you, with no strings attached!

Turn off your email notifications and go get your nails done, or go for lunch with a friend.

Running your own business is often more than a full-time job.

As hard as it can be, you do it because you love it!

But, if the admin is piling up, or the tax is stressing you out, or you just want to be able to chat with someone who understands, fill in our Quick Questionnaire and let’s have a chat!
