Dementia Adventure – Kath Vale

Thinking Differently About Dementia

Web: www.dementiaadventure.co.uk | Email: marketing@dementiaadventure.co.uk | Tel: 01245237548 | Socials: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube

In the UK there are 850,000 people living with some form of dementia. With an ageing population, numbers are set to rise to 1.6 million by 2040. In fact, someone develops dementia every three minutes.

Dementia is the only cause of death in the UK top ten without a cure.

Whilst we wait and hope, much can be done right now to care for, and enable people living with dementia to live healthier, more active and enjoyable lives and bring emotional, social and physical benefits to families affected by dementia. This is the challenge ahead of us as a society and it is why Dementia Adventure exists.

Exercise, fresh air and stimulation can help people retain their skills and interests for longer, improve wellbeing and have a positive impact on the lives of people with dementia and their carers/families. Once diagnosed, people with dementia are at risk of being indoors too much of the time resulting in an unnecessary decline in their physical, emotional and social well-being.

With the right support, we believe that people living with dementia can continue to do the things they have always enjoyed: get outdoors, remain active, keep connected to friends, family and their community and retain a sense of adventure in their lives.

Dementia Adventure is a multi-award winning charity based in Essex but working nationally.

Our work, and its impact on improving the quality of life for people living with dementia has been recognised with a succession of awards including: The Silver i-Award for Innovation (2018) and the International Dementia Excellence Award (2012).

Dementia Adventure provides a range of services – all with nature in mind: Fully supported dementia holidays, short breaks and outings – Dementia Adventure specialises in designing and delivering, fully supported, small-group experiences for people with dementia and their carers.

Our model enables the person with dementia and their partner, family member or friend to enjoy a residential holiday or short break, day trip or outdoor experience together with the support of trained staff and volunteers.

Dementia Skills Sessions for people caring for, or supporting somebody with dementia – Attendees can connect with experienced dementia trainers, learn more about dementia and receive practical tips to help them in their supportive role. We cover a range of topics, based on a key building block in our training programme – Thinking Differently About Dementia.

Training & support for organisations – Often professionals are risk averse when it comes to enabling people with dementia to access the outdoors. Our team of experienced trainers deliver a range of tailored dementia training and support.

Our aim is to upskill staff and volunteers that already support people living with dementia, help create inclusive and accessible services across an organisation or support to set up a nature-based programme specifically for people living with dementia in the local community.

We also want to extend our benefit by raising awareness of the physical, social and emotional benefits of outdoor activities and engagement with nature for people living with dementia and inspiring individuals and organisations to take action to shape and influence their local community.

The Residence Coworking – Karen Tait

Web: www.theresidencecoworking.co.uk/en | Email: karen@theresidencecoworking.co.uk | Tel: 02039510467 | Socials: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn

Hello, I’m Karen Tait; Founder and Owner of The Residence.

Here are The Residence my aim is to create a friendly and vibrant place where like-minded individuals can Work, Connect and Grow.

I believe the coworking environment is ideal for start-ups, freelancers or anyone looking for a great place to work but loves the prospect of sharing ideas, building relationships and growing their business in an organic yet focused way.

When the opportunity came along to open a co-working space, I instantly saw the advantages and knew it would be a great opportunity to support businesses while developing my own.

Using ‘The Residence’ as a permanent base for my own business as a Virtual Assistant, it’s a great place to welcome my clients for meetings, social events or even just a natter over a cuppa. A city worker in a previous career, my life was faced paced and frenzied however once I left the city and started on my own, I knew that I needed to continue my professional approach yet maintain a level of authenticity for myself.

As a VA my job is to offer support and guidance. It’s in my nature to be helpful, especially when I can see an opportunity to help take the pressure off. The very nature of being a VA is just that – taking the pressure off others so they can focus on their job.

I immediately recognised the same advantages in a co-working space: A professional yet friendly environment, with like-minded individuals where everything from the wi-fi and printer to coffee and cake are taken care of.

My aim at The Residence is to remove all the detail, and the distraction from your day, so you can focus on your business and watch it grow. My job is to enable you to be more productive and ensure the time you spend at The Residence is time well spent.

I’ve created a friendly environment which is professional yet personal. At the heart of my business I want to ensure you feel welcome and well supported. Our members comprise a good combination of freelancers, corporate individuals who want a break from the commute and small business owners.

With growth I’d love the diverse mix of professionals we have created here to continue whilst offering more people a great place to come to work.

As for me, I’d love to welcome you to The Residence and help you to grow your business and your social network.
